EIA TIA T568B Cable wiring

We wired an RJ-45 connector on Cat-5 cable in NET125 lab this week.

Here is a recount of what we did.

The Cat-5 cable comes with 4 pair of twisted wires. First pair is orange, orange/white, second pair is green, green/white; the third pair is blue, blue/white; and the fourth pair is brown, brown/white.

After untwisting the wires they are arranged in the order from left to right,

1. Orange, 2. Orange/White, 3.Blue, 4.Green/White, 5. Green, 6. Blue/White, 7. Brown, 8. Brown/White

After aligning the wires in the correct order, trim the ends to prepare the wires to insert in the RJ-45 connector.

After trimming the ends flush, insert the wires into the RJ-45 connector. The orange wire is on your left and the connector is prong side down. Push the wire in until the outer sheathing is under the crimp bar on the connector.

The ends of the wire will be visable in the end of the connector.

While firmly holding pressure on the wire, crimp the connector with the other hand.
